ZTE to come up with Six Tablet PCs Next Year

ZTE to come up with Six Tablet PCs Next Year
In a press conference with the members of Chinese press, Wang Yong, deputy general manager for mobile broadband unit of ZTE, unveiled the company’s latest strategy as part of the overall plan to compete with the leading tablet computer manufacturers in the market today.

To date, Apple Inc’s iPad remained to be the leading choice among tablet users, selling millions of units worldwide.

Sought for comment, company spokespersons confirmed the plan, saying that the new device would be called ZTE Light.

Unveiled during a technology exhibition in Beijing, the Chinese technology firm said that the new device will feature a 7-inch touchscreen interface – slightly smaller than the iPad. But the real deal would come from its ability to make phone calls – not available in the iPad – much like the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is another key player in the younger tablet computer market.

However, the official refused to give the exact specifications for the device, which remained a “top secret” project for the Chinese firm.

According to the company, the new ZTE Light will be sold in Europe through its leading wireless carriers. There are also plans to launch the new device in the Latin America and Asia Pacific regions early 2011.

Meanwhile, Wang said that the company plans to sell the ZTE Light to China’s domestic market by the end of this year to catch up with the holiday shopping, or by the first week of January next year.

Another tablet computer is being developed that would allow Chinese users to operate the device on TD-SCDMA 3G standard used by China Mobile – the country’s biggest wireless network provider.

The company plans to sell the ZTE Light for $449, but said that the final price for the device would depend on the mobile network provider.

Meanwhile, ZTE’s closest rival Huawei has earlier launched its own tablet computer called the S7, which is a 7-inch touchscreen device that can also make phone calls. The device is already available United Kingdom, Australia and in the United States.

Dell Inspiron Duo Tablet Computer

Dell Inspiron Duo Tablet Computer
Compared to all netbooks in the market, Inspiron Duo features a flip hinge that covers and exposes a physical keyboard, allowing it to be transformed into a tablet computer. Another notable thing is that it runs on an Intel Atom processor for better performance in multimedia and gaming applications.

Meanwhile, the tablet-and-netbook computer uses Windows 7 Home Premium, although its components are not strong and fast enough to handle this OS.

In terms of design, the Inspiron Duo has a 10-inch screen which can be flipped vertically, thus turning itself from a tablet into a netbook, or vice versa. The lid, on the hand, somewhat resembles a picture frame with its rubbery plastic borders that may come in blue and red, while the interior is lined with gray aluminum.

And because this device has a physical keyboard, it is twice heavier than the Apple iPad 2 (1.35 pounds).

The keyboard is slightly undersized (about 95 percent of a full-size) although it still provides an “acceptable” typing experience. In addition, this feature is complemented with touchpad and mouse buttock which are relatively responsive; in fact, most people will probably use them more than the touch screen which is slightly sluggish.

Most of the problems will arise in the tablet mode, aggravated by the fact that Windows 7 does not offer a usable virtual keyboard. However, one major benefit of this OS is it allows users to run all their favorite applications without going to an app store.

Microsoft Kin One Phone

Microsoft Kin One Social Network Phone
The phone is named “Kin One” (its more powerful version is named “Kin Two) which will be available in the US next month through Verizon Wireless before being introduced to other European countries.

While there are countless of phones designed for social networking, Microsoft’s latest product does not stand out from the rest, or if it does, it is because it lacks features that would be considered by most consumers as deal-breakers.

One of the most disturbing downsides of this phone is the lack of application support despite the proliferation of smartphones in the market which offer thousands of apps. Take for example Android phones, iPhone models, and BlackBerry phones which can support thousands of applications ranging from games, music, office use, to entertainment and GPS technology.

Another deal-breaker is the phone’s OS. Using the current mobile technology of Microsoft, the company did not incorporate the Windows 7 operating system which could have made the mobile phone more powerful. However, the company has promised that this OS will be available in the new version which will be introduced tentatively in the fourth quarter of this year.

While the technology giant boasts that Kin One is highly-designed for young consumers addicted to social networking, surprisingly, the phone does not allow users to share photos and videos through microblogging Twitter. Such downside is such a waste since the phone has a relatively impressive built-in camera which has 5-megapixel resolutions, auto flash (which makes it possible to capture images in low-light condition), and other image technologies.

On the brighter side, the phone has touch sensitive screen, media player which is powered by Zune, 4 gigabytes (which can store up to 1,000 songs), and lastly, cheaper price compared to most popular smartphones.

However, a cheap price does not make the phone worthy of purchase for most users especially for those who are web-centric denizens or those who rely on their phones for certain business applications like word document and PDF file support.

SANYO PDG-DHT100L

SANYO PDG-DHT100L
This HD projector also features a dual lamp system that works by increasing the light output. With this feature, people can use this device in different lighting conditions, from the brightest to the dimmest room. This technology has also been integrated with 6500 lumens (this is a unit of light based on its power), allowing this projector to display light that is highly sensitive to the human eyes.

According to Sanyo vice president Mark Holt, the PDG-DHT100L has been specifically designed to support impressive graphics even in brightly lit rooms, adding that this is also ideal in large areas including halls, auditoriums, and theaters.

Another notable feature is the optical engine designed with dust-resistant seal. This special design is further complemented with Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) which prevents dust from entering the lamp while monitoring airflow. With these combined technologies, the projector’s durability will be longer compared to other models in the market.

Most projectors have shorter lamp light because the design does not allow the system to have intervals. With this common problem, Sanyo has used a special design for the PDG-DHT100L which uses two-lamp system. This is how the design works: the main lamp will automatically shut down after a certain period of time (or when it has detected that it has been used for a long period of time) and the back-up lamp will light up. With this interval function, the lamp system can have longer lifespan compared to projectors which only use one source of light.

To support HD images, this projector has been designed to be compatible with Sanyo’s Uncompressed HD Data Wireless Transfer System, allowing the device to project pictures with 1080i or 720p. When tested, the HD wireless transfer remained its impressive quality up to a distance of 30 meters.

BeoVision 4 Plasma TV

BeoVision 4 Plasma TV.The prototype television, dubbed as BeoVision 4, is a 103-inch widescreen television that will feature complete media technologies including impressive audio system, high definition video support and home integration capability.

According to the company, the television uses plasma technology that supports bright and vivid images. Another advantage of this flat panel display is that it can provide large surface with thin diameter. It also has a wider viewing angle compared to LCD panels which has reduced view angle in at least one of its direction.

Bang & Olufsen also said that this television will come with an “intelligent” remote control which provides interactive experience for its users who can easily manage all the features of the media center/entertainment device.

With the introduction of this prototype plasma television, the Danish company has created the widest consumer flat screen television which has also been designed to serve as a full media center for people, allowing them to control other home devices including security system, lights, ventilation, and other commonly used appliances. With this capability, home management will be a lot easier for users.

Another impressive feature is the durable design made possible because of the strong aluminum frame which can protect the internal parts from harsh elements. And since plasma technology can last up to 100,000 hours of actual display, this television can last up to 27 years with its image quality still vivid and bright.

Because BeoVision has been designed to provide home cinema viewing experience, it offers impressive image technologies including anti-reflection coated contrast screen which allows viewers to watch programs even in bright lights and automatic picture control which provides vivid and high definition pictures.
